Four students from a university in Nonthaburi province, who are alleged to have attacked a junior student and his father, turned themselves in at a police station on Thursday. They all expressed remorse and allegedly admitted their guilt after being informed of the charges against them, according to their lawyer.
After questioning, the police granted them temporary release on their own recognizance. One of the four has publicly expressed regret and apologised to the university for the incident.
They claim that they attacked the junior student because he posted an image accompanied by provocative messages on social media.
The victim was a freshman at the Nonthaburi Campus of Rajamangala University of Technology Suvarnabhumi, who had been subjected to prolonged physical abuse by senior students during freshman initiation.
As a result, his parents went to the university to request that their son be transferred to another campus, but they were confronted and attacked by the seniors. This resulted in severe injuries to the son, requiring treatment in an ICU. His father was also hurt.
The father reported the case to the police at Nonthaburi Provincial Police Station and is looking to take legal action against the four students.
