BTS orders checks of all skirting slabs after one slab fell onto a road

The Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS) has ordered a thorough check of the decorative skirting slabs on the Sukhumvit and Silom lines, after one of them detached and fell to the ground at Sathorn intersection on Wednesday evening.

Luckily, no one was hurt and no cars were damaged, said BTS, as it apologised for any inconvenience caused by the incident, adding that it immediately dispatched officials to the scene after being informed of the incident by Yannawa police.

The company said that the slabs are decorative additions to the main structure of the elevated train system and, therefore, the incident did not impact train services.

Nevertheless, the company said that the train system is regularly checked and maintained, to make sure that it is in working condition and safe, adding that it will coordinate with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to make sure that such an accident will not recur.

The company also asked members of the public to call the company’s customer relations centre at 02-617-6000 or Line@btsskytrain if they come across any defects on the train system.
