Thailand has drawn up a roadmap for tangible management of plastic waste. Regionally, ASEAN has endorsed the Bangkok Declaration on Combatting Marine Debris and the ASEAN Framework of Action on Marine Debris. Whether the objectives of the two documents will become reality remains to be seen.
Thai PBS today presents the perspective of a group of garbage-collection volunteers, who used to take care of Mariam, a stranded baby dugong found to have eaten plastic waste, rescued and treated by vegetarians, before she finally lost her fight for life.
