Chonburi zoo applies to trademark pygmy hippo calf “Moo Deng”

Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Chonburi province has applied to the Intellectual Property Department for trademark certification for the zoo’s iconic Moo Deng pygmy hippo calf and is awaiting approval, the zoo’s director, Narongwit Chodchoi said today.

Riverside residents in Bangkok warned of possible flooding from October 13th

Sixteen riverside communities in Bangkok are being advised to move their belongings to higher ground, check electrical plugs and to keep updated on water conditions in the Chao Phraya River, in light of the increase in the rate of water being discharged through the Chao Phraya Dam and the high tides expected from October 13th until the 23rd.

School coach fire victims cremated in royally sponsored ceremony in Uthai Thani

A Royal cremation is being held today at Khao Phraya Sangkharam Temple School in Lan Sak district of Uthai province for 20 students and three teachers, who died when a double-decked coach, taking them on an educational field trip to Nonthaburi, caught fire on Vibhavadi Rangsit highway on October 1st.

Kesa Komon Bridge to remain closed to traffic for five more days

The Kesa Komon Bridge in Bangkok’s Dusit district will remain closed for at least five more days for major repairs, after the approach road to the bridge collapsed Sunday night, leaving a sinkhole about three metres deep, ten metres long and five metres wide, due to the construction of a dam in the Prem Prachakon Canal.

The only partial opening of five of the six downstream sluice gates on the Ping River and garbage mounting up in front of the gates have been blamed for the slow discharge of water from the swollen river and the subsequent flooding of areas of Chiang Mai province.
