A flooded temple in Chiang Mai decided yesterday to move cremations forward, following an announcement that the electricity supply in the area would be cut due to heavy flooding.
The decision was made because the lack of electricity will affect mortuary refrigeration, and the rising floodwater will create difficulties for the event's proceedings.
The monks of Pa Paeng Temple in Muang district had to transfer the caskets to the crematorium through deep floodwater and images of the transfer were posted on several social media platforms, including the Kaosarn Prabuddha Satsana Facebook page.
An abbot at the temple also posted photos of himself standing in front of the temple, in water that reached his chest. He stated that all of the temple’s other activities are suspended until further notice.
Many areas in downtown Chiang Mai, including the Tha Pae Gate, went dark last night, as the electricity supply has been cut since yesterday.
More announcements regarding the suspension of electricity supplies are expected today, as floodwaters continue to rise in the province.
Meanwhile, the Lanna, Lanna 3 and Fort Kawila hospitals suspended service yesterday, as they are also affected by deep floodwater.
