The Cabinet decided today to provide a standard Bt9,000 in compensation to each of 67,296 households, which have sought financial help from the government, in 50 provinces affected by flooding.
Traisuree Traisoranakul, spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, said that, of the 67,296 households, 6,363 in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai had already each received 5,000 baht from the Government Savings Bank, on behalf of the Department of Public Disaster Prevention and Mitigation.
As such, she said they will each receive an additional 4,000 baht in compensation.
Altogether, a budget of 3.05 billion baht for flood compensation was approved by the Cabinet on September 17th.
Meanwhile, Social Development and Human Development Minister Varawut Silpa-archa said today that the ministry has provided help, in the form of financial and material assistance, as well as counselling, to about 66,000 vulnerable people affected by the flooding.
Among them were about 9,000 children, 12,000 disabled people, 39,000 elderly people and 7,500 youths in 38 provinces.
For flood victims in Chiang Mai, he said the ministry has set up temporary shelters and a central kitchen, as well as distributing survival kits.
Also, about 3.8 million baht has been already spent on repairs to 216 houses in Chiang Rai.
