Visitors to Chiang Rai province are being invited by national artist Chalermchai Kositpipat to visit the Mueang Chiang Rai Museum of Contemporary Arts, to see paintings by artists from across the country showcasing the devastating flooding which struck Mae Sai and Mueang districts in September.
The exhibition, entitled “Chiang Rai Disaster Archives 2024”, opened to the public on Saturday and features more than 100 paintings depicting the destruction caused and the noble human spirit that poured into the province from all directions to help the victims and post-flood rehabilitation efforts.
In addition to the artworks, Chalermchai said that the exhibition also features essays, written by children about how they feel about the flooding, videos of interviews with the flood victims and a collection of damaged toys.
The national artist also said that the September flooding was the worst ever, in term of losses, surpassing that in Chiang Saen district when he was young.
Suvit Jaipom, the chief artist in Chiang Rai, said the exhibition will serve as a learning resource for about the impacts of the flooding.
