A village headman and the chief administrator of a sub-district administrative organisation (SAO) were shot and killed in Nongchik district of the southernmost province of Pattani yesterday.
Three others, including a woman, who were injured during the violence, were rushed to Pattani Hospital.
The slain village headman was identified as Sithichai Petchsuriya of Ban Rai village, and the chief administrator was Cherdchai Promrajkaew of the Korlortanyong SAO.
The attack happened at about 6:30pm, during a sports day.
Fourth Army Area commander, Lt Gen Santi Sakuntanark, then ordered reinforcement of security in the area and that every effort be made to apprehend the culprits as soon as possible.
