Flow of floodwater into Chao Phraya increased ahead of more rain

The Department of Public Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has instructed authorities in several central provinces to accelerate the discharge of floodwater into the Chao Phraya River, to ease the hardship of flood victims ahead of anticipated heavy rain induced by Typhoon Matmo.

Flooding in Ayutthaya, Nakhon Sawan and Ang Thong

About 43,000 households in Ayutthaya province are flooded, after irrigation officials increased the rate of discharge of water through the Chao Phraya Dam in Chainat to 2,500m3/s, with the likelihood that this may be further increased due to the increasing flow of water into the dam’s reservoir.

Flood alert: Water released from Chao Phraya dam amid rising river levels

People living in Bangkok and ten central provinces have been advised by the Royal Irrigation Department (RID) to monitor the water level in the Chao Phraya River closely and to prepare for potential overflows, after the Chao Phraya Dam in Chainat province increased its discharge rate to 2,500m3/s at 3pm today, to ease pressure to the dam.
