Artist Chalermchai starts work on two more paintings for Tham Luang museum
National artist Chalermchai Kositpipat and his artist friends are working on two paintings depicting the “Nangnon” mountain in the northern province of Chiang Rai which will be exhibited at the Tham Luang museum in Chiang Rai upon their completion in two weeks’ time.
Chalermchai said the two paintings will complement the giant “The Heroes” painting that tells the story of the 12 Wild Boars boys and their coach and the rescue operations conducted by Thai and international rescuers already installed at the museum.
He said one of the two paintings tells the legend of the Nangnon mountain about a princess who eloped with a horse raiser. According to local beliefs, the couple were pursued by soldiers who managed to kill the horse raiser. The pregnant princess then used a hair pin to kill herself.
The other painting depicts the eyes of the Lord Buddha looking from the sky toward the Nangnon mountain decorated with several famous temples of Chiang Rai such as Wat Rong Khun, Wat Pasak, Wat Phra Kaew and Doi Tung.
Besides the three paintings, Chalermchai said there is a statue of Lt-Cmd Saman Kunan, alias Ja Sam, a former Navy SEAL member who died during the rescue operation to extract the 13 footballers and coach out of the flooded cave at Tham Luang Khunnam Nangnon.
