New COVID-19 infections in Thailand today (Monday) surged by 5,406 cases, including only 9 cases among prisoners, while the daily death toll fell to 22, according to the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).

Cumulative infections since, April 1st, 2021, have soared to 220,990 and death toll, over the same period, is 1,840. Cumulative infections, since early last year, are 249,853, with 1,934 deaths.

CCSA Spokesman Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin said that Bangkok recorded 1,678 new infections today and there are 112 clusters under close watch.

Seven new clusters were identified in Samut Prakan, Nakhon Pathom, Rayong, Saraburi and Tak, where 447 infections were found at a garment factory in Mae Sot district, prompting the establishment of a field hospital to accommodate the patients.

In Samut Prakan, 13 employees at an air conditioner plant are infected, as well as 38 workers at a slaughter house in Muang district of Nakhon Pathom, 127 at a computer parts plant in Saraburi, 35 at a construction worker dormitory, 13 at a construction firm and 15 at an electronics recycling factory in Rayong province.
