Thailand’s northern border province of Nan eased its anti-COVID-19 lockdown restrictions today, by allowing electrical appliance stores to reopen, claiming that electrical equipment is necessary for daily life.
Customers are required to wear face masks and cleanse their hands with sanitizer gel before entering the store, after they have had their temperatures measured by store employees.
Store owners are also required to disinfect the floors every day and strictly observe social distancing among their customers.
At Tesco Lotus, which houses an electrical appliance section, several shoppers were seen browsing for air-conditioners, electric fans and refrigerators.
Nan imposed the lockdown on March 24th, and it is one of the nine provinces which have been spared from COVID-19.
Buri Ram, in the Northeast, is another province easing restrictions, beginning on May 1st, for certain businesses, including street vendors, flea markets, fresh markets and mobile food stalls. All people in the province over 15 years of age are issued with a sticker, to be attached to their ID cards or passports. Those who travel out of the province will be subject to quarantine upon their return.
Meanwhile, Thai Air Asia will resume some domestic flights on May 1st.
The airline’s CEO, Mr. Santisook Klongchaiya, said today that, for the safety of passengers, the airline has adopted social distancing for on-board seating, the requirement for passengers to wear face masks throughout the flight, no food or drink on board, health screening before boarding and only one bag, not exceeding 5kgs, on board.
Passengers can check the destinations being operated by logging into the airline’s website.
