Two people were killed, 10 injured and one went missing when a mudslide struck a village in Mae Chaem district of Chiang Mai on Tuesday night, following several hours of heavy rain caused by the Kajiki storm, which has already weakened to low pressure cell. Five houses were also damaged.
All the injured have been taken to the district hospital. A search for the missing person has been launched by local officials, with the help of an emergency rescue team.
Heavy rain was also reported in Phrae province, triggering flooding in Muang, Den Chai, Wang Chin and Soong Men districts, particularly on farmland.
In Nan province, which was hit by the low pressure cell last night, the Nan Hospital had evacuated some patients to a shelter as a precautionary measure. Sandbags have been placed around some departments. A hospital official said that, if the flooding gets worse, a field hospital will be set up.
In Mae Moh district of Lampang, several villages have been flooded since last night, causing damage to houses, cars and motorcycles. Several local roads have become impassable to small vehicles.
