KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim was reported to be on his way to the national palace this morning for an audience with the King to discuss what could pave the way for him form a new government, according to Malaysian media.
Anwar, who is president of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), was to present a list of MPs that he claims give him a majority in the Parliament.
In a Facebook post ahead of his meeting, Anwar wrote: “Hope everything goes smoothly today.”
The Star quoted unnamed party sources as saying that Anwar’s audience with the King was scheduled to be around 11 am.
At around 10 am, Anwar tweeted of a photo of himself in formal attire, wearing a blue suit and red tie together with his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, it said.
Anwar, a former deputy prime minister, had claimed that he had a “formidable” group of lawmakers to become the next prime minister.
Anwar’s audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong last month was delayed by three weeks, after the 61-year-old ruler was hospitalised for 12 days with food poisoning and several minor surgeries.
