The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has lifted the public disaster designation in six more districts following an improvement in flood conditions, leaving only Nong Chok and Lat Krabang still classified as public disaster zones.

The six districts no longer classified as public disaster zones are Khlong Sam Wa, Bueng Kum, Prawet, Min Buri, Saphan Sung and Sai Mai.

Deputy Bangkok Governor Thavida Kamolvej said today that some communities in Lat Krabang and Nong Chok remain flooded because they are located in low-lying areas.

However, she said the lifting of the public disaster designation does not mean an end to assistance and compensation for affected households.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department issued a warning today of heavy to very heavy rain in parts of the South, the lower North, the lower Central Plains, including Bangkok and its surrounding areas, and the East from today through Sunday.

Strong winds are also forecast. The department has urged people in these regions, particularly those living in low-lying areas and along mountain slopes, to prepare for possible flash floods and runoff.

The department attributed the heavy rainfall to a monsoon trough extending across the middle of the South, combined with the southwesterly monsoon prevailing over the lower Andaman Sea. A high-pressure system from China is also covering the upper North, the upper Northeast and the South China Sea.

Waves in the Andaman Sea are expected to exceed three metres, and seafarers have been advised to exercise extra caution while navigating the waters.
