Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has given the greenlight to the state and private sectors to hold this year’s Loy Krathong festival, provided that there are adequate health safety measures, under the COVID-free setting and universal prevention programmes, in place.

These include a ban on fireworks, flying lanterns, flares and firecrackers and celebrants should refrain from drinking. Officials must check public transport, such as boats and buses,to make sure they are safe for commuters during the festival.
The event organisers must also ensure attendees wear masks and maintain social distancing at all times.
Ms. Rachada said that event organizers must also make sure that everyone passes through temperature scanners andregisters, via Thai Chana app, at entry and exit points. Pointsof frequent contact and toilets at the festival venues must be disinfected at least every 2 hours.
Officials are also required to check the readiness of each venue one week before the festival. Failing that, permission will not be granted for the holding of the festivities.
