Constitution Protection Association Secretary-general Srisuwan Janya vowed today (Sunday) that, tomorrow, he will ask the Election Commission to review the pro-Thaksin Thaki Raksa Chart party’s controversial nomination of its prime ministerial candidate to the Constitutional Court for a decision on whether the party should be dissolved.
The EC is expected to discuss the TRC party’s issue to determine the legality of its nomination of Princess Ubolratana as its sole prime ministerial candidate.
Srisuwan alleged that the TRC party had violated Rule 17 of the Election Commission’s campaign regulations which forbids candidates and political parties from involving the Royal Family in electioneering.
However, the Thaki Raksa Chart party said in a Facebook post today that it would stick to its political standpoint and would go ahead with electoral campaigning to contest the March 24th election to solve the problems of the country and its people.
The party suspended its campaign visits in Bangkok on Saturday after the issuance of a Royal Command on Friday night suggesting that the involvement in politics of a member of the Royal Family is highly inappropriate and contravenes the long established tradition that the Monarchy is above politics.
Party leader, Preechaphol Pongpanich, today visited a temple in Ayutthaya province to perform merit-making ritual.
On Saturday night, fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who is believed to wield influence over Pheu Thai party and its Thai Raksa Chart offshoot, urged his supporters via Twitter to cheer up and move forward, saying life must go on.
