Uthenthawai protesters demand self-determination in running of institute

Students and alumni of Rajamangala University of Technology Tawan-ok, Uthenthawai campus, are demanding self-determination in the management of the institute and its conversion to state property.

They are also demanding the setting up of a committee to push their six demands, detailed in a letter of protest submitted to the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovations, today.

The protesters marched to the property management office of Chulalongkorn University and the Higher Education Ministry today, to protest against the planned relocation of the campus to a proposed site in Samut Prakan province.

They also announced that the institute will continue to enrol new students for the new semester, in defiance of a Supreme Administrative Court ruling.

Koonsaen Kuosavanon, president of the Uthenthawai student club, said that the protesters had also submitted a petition to Parliament President Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, seeking a review of the Chulalongkorn University Act B.E. 2551 (2008).

He claimed that the land on which Chulalongkorn University and the Uthenthawai institute are located is crown property and cannot be claimed by the university.
