The Thai government is considering shortening the pre-travel visa-free stay in Thailand for Chinese tourists, from a maximum of 90 to 30 days, Tourism and Sports Minister Sorawong Thienthong said today.

He said most Chinese tourists spend no more than 15 days in Thailand, except for those who come to learn Thai boxing or how to cook Thai food.
As such, he said that a 30-day stay should be appropriate.
In March 2025, Thailand and China agreed a mutual visa exemption agreement, allowing citizens of both countries to enter and stay in the other for up to 30 days without a visa, with cumulative stays not exceeding 90 days in any 180-day period.
Sorawong said that proposed review of visa-free stay duration for Chinese tourists has nothing to do with the activities of some dubious Chinese-owned businesses in Thailand.
The tourism minister also said the ministry will revive the “We Travel Together” program in May or June, to boost tourism during the low tourism season and during week days.
Under the “We Travel Together” scheme, he said government officials will be able take part, without losing their right to days off, by working online while travelling.
