People affected by the earthquake on March 28 can seek help from Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) by contacting their district office before April 27.
To be eligible for help from the BMA, claimants must meet certain conditions. For instance, house-owners whose property was damaged must have obtained a letter of certification from their district office. If the house is rented out, the tenants will be eligible to receive financial help.
The BMA is also providing temporary shelter for people whose housing has been declared unsafe for occupation. They have arranged two shelters, one at the Wat Samian Nari School and another in Chatuchak district.
The city administration has also arranged for temporary accommodation via the Airbnb platform for 7,098 affected people for up to 14 nights. To date, 613 families have applied for the free accommodation service.
The BMA warned, however, that if this service is not used within seven days after their registration, they will lose the right to free accommodation.
A city official said that the temporary shelter at Wat Samian Nari School, which has space for 150 people, is still unoccupied. Meanwhile, the shelter in Chatuchak district, which has space for 82 people, is almost full.
Besides the provision of temporary accommodation, the BMA and the Department of Public Disaster Prevention and Mitigation are providing compensation to cover property damage, death and injury among earthquake victims.
• Up to 49,500 baht for house repairs.
• Up to 6,000 baht, or 3,000 baht for each of two months, as rent for those in houses which have been declared as unsafe for occupation who do not seek temporary accommodation at shelters provided by the BMA.
• 29,700 baht to cover funeral expenses, plus 29,700 baht if the deceased was the breadwinner for the family.
• 4,000 baht in initial compensation for injury. In case of serious injury, the compensation will be increased to 13,300 baht. 2,300 baht in “morale-boosting” support for each injured person.
• 11,400 baht for occupational investment.
