“Tom kha gai” included in Department of Skill Development cooking lessons

Thailand’s Department of Skill Development has instructed its provincial offices to include “tom kha gai” on the menu of Thai food in the skill training program for trainees who aspire to a culinary career.

The department’s director-general, Buppha Ruangsud, said that “tom kha gai” was recently added to the menu of 10 dishes in the training program for those who want to hone their cooking skills to a professional standard.

The other dishes on the menu include “phat thai goong”, “massama gai” and “tom yam goong” which are well known to foreign tourists, she said, adding that the training program will not only help to provide a means to make a living, but will also to conserve traditional Thai food.

Those who are interested in the program can call the 1506 hotline or visit www.dsd.go.th for more information.

Tom kha gai (chicken in galangal-infused coconut cream soup) was placed first among the “10 Best Rated Chicken Soups in the World” on the TasteAtlas global food mapping site. The dish got 4.7 out of 5 stars. There were 1,376 entries.
