Their Majesties take shooting victims under royal patronage

The suspected gunman is seen on his knees as policemen approach him. The encounter took place at Siam Kempinski where the suspect fled to after the shooting spree at Siam Paragon.

Their Majesties the King and Queen have taken all the victims injured in the shooting at Siam Paragon shopping mall on Tuesday afternoon under the royal patronage, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin said.

Srettha said has also spoken to Chinese Ambassador to Thailand Han Zhiqiang on the phone to brief him on the incident in which a Chinese tourist was killed.

Srettha was speaking to reporters while visiting victims of the shooting being treated at Chulalongkorn Hospital.  He had also earlier visited those who were being treated at the Police Hospital.

He said all the patients are now being under the royal patronage of Their Majesties.

National police chief Pol Torsak Sukvimol confirmed that two people were killed in the shooting. One was a Chinese tourist and the other was from Myanmar.

“I have spoken to the Chinese ambassador on the phone. The ambassador expressed his appreciation for the attention the Thai government is paying to those affected and by Their Majesties’ patronage for the injured,” he said.

Srettha also expressed confidence that the incident will not affect Thai tourist industry.

The prime minister also said that he will preside over the opening of a technology forum to be held at Siam Paragon on Wednesday as scheduled.

“Life needs to go on. We do the best we can,” he said.
