Thai and Cambodian troops have completed the installation of temporary border markers, from KM52 to KM59 in Chanthaburi province, covering a distance of 8.3km.
Rear Admiral Parach Rattanachiayaphan, spokesman for the Royal Thai Navy, said today that the joint operation took 16 days and that a 166 markers have been planted, adding that this marks a step forward in the preparation of reference documentation for the demarcation of the entire borderline between Thailand and Cambodia.
In the next step, drones will be deployed to take aerial images of the border area, for the making of a detailed and accurate map, which will be presented to the joint chairs of the Boundary Commission for approval, prior to preparing the construction of a border fence.
Meanwhile, similar efforts in Ban Nong Chan and Ban Nong Ya Kaew villages, in Sa Kaeo province, have been hampered by conflict over alleged encroachment by Cambodian civilians on Thai territory.
