Protest leader Panupong Jaadnok, alias Mike Rayong, was taken into police custody when he was holding a poster questioning the benefits of land reclamation in Rayong province, as Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha was visiting a market in the province on Monday afternoon.

The political activist was arrested for his role in the protest held in the compound of Thammasat University’s Rangsit campus on August 10th. The Thanyaburi Court issued a warrant for his arrest, as requested by Khlong Luang district police.

Panupong was later escorted to Khlong Luang police station in Pathum Thani province.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to chair a mobile cabinet meeting in Rayong on Tuesday. He arrived in the province today to officiate at the formal opening of the Pattaya-Maptaphut motorway, before he toured the Roi Sao market to meet vendors and the general public.

The motorway, or Highway 7, is 125kms long and will facilitate road traffic between Bangkok and the eastern seaboard of Thailand.
