Two para-military rangers were injured in a roadside explosion in Yarang district of Pattani province today.
They were travelling in a pick-up truck on their way back to their barracks, after the completion of a routine patrol. As the vehicle was travelling along a road in Mo Mawee sub-district, insurgents hiding in the bushes detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) hidden under the road.
The explosion caused some damage to the truck and the force of the explosion and its shrapnel injured the two rangers, who were rushed to the district hospital.
The bomb blast came two days after former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra made his first visit to Narathiwat province in 20 years, during which he sought forgiveness from Muslims over the Tak Bai massacre on October 25th, 2004.
He also told them that he hopes to see an improvement in the situation in the Deep South this year.
