Two IEDs were detonated Tuesday morning, one in front of Si Sakhon district police station and the other in front of a defence volunteer unit in Yee Ngor district, Narathiwat province. No one was killed or injured.
Si Sakhon district police said that an improvised explosive device (IED), placed near the left rear wheel of police officer’s pick-up truck parked in front of the station at 7.30am, exploded at about 9am. The officer said he had just dropped his children at school and his wife at work before he arrived at the police station.
Police cordoned off the parking lot before the arrival of an Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit. They combed the area for any other devices and collected shrapnel for forensic examination.
Police say that they will check CCTV footage from the officer’s house and nearby to see whether the IED had been planted on his vehicle.
A second device exploded in a car at about 9.20am in front of a defence volunteer unit in Yee Ngor district.
Police said that the car, belonging to an assistant chief district officer, had been under water for several days, during the recent flooding, and had undergone major repairs at a garage. The owner had only recently picked his car up, following completion of the repairs.
No one was injured by the explosion, but the car was destroyed.
