Three people were injured last evening when two men, believed to be linked to insurgent groups, threw a pipe bomb into a road checkpoint in Sai Buri district of Pattani province.
According to a police report, the suspects were riding a motorcycle through the checkpoint in front of Liab Temple when the pillion rider threw a pipe bomb before speeding away.
Three civilians near the scene suffered minor injuries. They were taken to the district hospital.
Insurgent groups have stepped up their attacks on government targets during the holy month of the Ramadan in the three southern provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat.
