Former Democrat party deputy leader Khunying Kalaya Sophonpanich has resigned to join a new party with Suchatvee Suwansawat, a Democrat party candidate in the Bangkok gubernatorial election about four years ago.
A member of the Democrat party for the past 25 years, Khunying Kalaya told the media today that she bears no grudges against the party but, since there is not much time left for her, she decided to leave to seek new pastures, where she can make herself useful to society.
She said that she has already visited former party leader Chuan Leekpai to say farewell.
Regarding the new party, named ‘Thai Kao Mai’, which is yet to be officially formed with several former Democrats, Khunying Kalaya admitted that they have had several rounds of discussion on the matter.
She said that the party will be registered in time for the next general election, adding that it will be comprised of a diverse groups of people from various backgrounds.
