Fifty-three senators from Bangkok and other provinces have been summonsed in connection with electoral collusion and must report to the Election Commission’s Office by May 19.
The summonses were issued by the Election Commission and the Department of Special Investigation (DSI).
Among the senators wanted by the EC are Alongkote Worakee, Chokechai Kittithanesuan, Chirasak Chukwamdee, Pibulath Haruhanprakarn, Wuthichart Kalayanamitr and Phisoot Rattanawong.
EC and DSI officials went to the house of Senator of Chirasak Chukwamdee in Vibhavadi Soi 62, in the Laksi district of Bangkok, at about 10am. They rang the doorbell twice, but no one showed up. They decided to attach the summons to the front of the house, with a police officer from Thong Song Hong as a witness, to prove that the summons had been served.
Another summons was attached in front of the house of Senator Wuthichart Kalayanamitr, after no one showed up to receive it.
An EC official said that Chanin Noilek, deputy secretary-general of the EC, in his capacity as the chief investigator on the electoral collusion case, issued the summonses yesterday for the 53 senators, in accordance with Senate Election Act 2018.
When contacted by a Thai PBS reporter, Senator Chirasak said he has not seen the summons yet and, therefore, could not comment.
