A complaint, seconded by 105 senators, was submitted to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) today, demanding an investigation into Justice Minister Tawee Sodsong and Pol Maj Yutthana Praedam, director-general of the Department of Special Investigation, for alleged malfeasance in office.
Senator Pol Maj-Gen Chatwat Saengpetch said the two men had falsely accused senators of money laundering, related to the Senate election in June last year.
The DSI’s special case committee, headed by Defence Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, rejected last week’s DSI proposal to treat the alleged voting collusion in the Senate election as a special case and to charge senators with criminal association, endangering national security and money laundering.
The committee only agreed, however, to the charge of money laundering, on the grounds that the DSI has the authority to probe the case by itself, without the need to seek the panel’s endorsement.
Chatwat claimed that the DSI’s action has tarnished the reputation of senators, adding that it has no right to probe alleged voting collusion, which falls within the jurisdiction of the Election Commission.
The senator also said he wonders whether the Justice Ministry and the DSI are now under the supervision of the justice minister or someone else.
