The Pheu Thai Party today withdrew its petition to the Constitutional Court challenging the legitimacy of the agreement between the Bhumjaithai and People’s parties, under which the People’s Party pledged support for Anutin as prime minister.
House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Martha told the media that he was informed by a government whip this afternoon that the Pheu Thai had asked for the return of the petition, submitted to him last Friday, to recheck the names of those who signed it and for amendments.
He said that his duty is to pass the petition to the Constitutional Court for consideration, after it is screened by the House secretariat, adding that he has no authority to form a judgement on the petition.
A group of Pheu Thai MPs initiated the petition to seek the charter court’s ruling on whether the signing of the agreement constitutes a violation of the Constitution and, if so, whether the leaders of the two parties, Anutin Charnvirakul and Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut, should be stripped of their parliamentary status.
