One of the Pheu Thai party’s prime ministerial candidates, Srettha Thavisin, has reiterated that they will not partner with Palang Pracharath or United Thai Nation to form a coalition government after the May 14th election, but will try to form a one-party government if it wins enough seats in the House.
“This has been the party’s position for quite some time, not just last night,” said Srettha, advisor to Paetongtarn Shinawatra, head of Pheu Thai “family”. He said that, after the election, the Pheu Thai party may, however, partner with other parties which share their political vision.
He said it depends on the whether voters support the party at the polls, after it has explained its stance on coalition government.
He said that he would like voters to judge the party’s policies, such equality and the eradication of poverty, when deciding for whom to vote.
Srettha, a former real estate tycoon, also criticised incumbent Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha’s belated move to seek permission from the Election Commission to use money from the Central Fund to ease the financial burden on households of the substantial increase in electricity bills, especially during the dry season.
Meanwhile, Bhumjaithai party leader Anutin Charnvirakul said today (Saturday) that they will not make a decision on joining any coalition until the Election Commission announces the results of the election.
He said they will support the party which garners the most votes and wins the right to form the next government. If that party cannot form a coalition to govern, then other parties have the right to attempt to form a coalitiont, in accordance with the Constitution.
