Chalerm Yubamrung, a veteran member of the Pheu Thai party, has announced his resignation from the party, in order to join the Palang Pracharath party.
He said yesterday that he did not inform Paetongtarn Shinawatra, head of the ‘Pheu Thai Family’ and former party leader, or his son, Wan, about his decision to quit, adding that he will submit his resignation letter to the Election Commission tomorrow.
Chalerm did not disclose why he is leaving the party, when approached by reporters yesterday, only saying that it was for political reasons and that he intends to join the Palang Pracharath party, of General Prawit Wongsuwan, on December 12th.
Once a key member of the Pheu Thai party, Chalerm has seen his influence in the party decline and has largely been ignored by the party following his defeat in the last election in Bangkok, in which his son, Wan, also failed to get elected.
