People’s Party Spokesman Parit Watcharasindhu has challenged House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha’s request that the party delete the name of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra from its motion seeking a no-confidence debate, targeting Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.
In his urgent letter to the People’s Party leader, Natthapong Ruengpanyawut, the Speaker asks them to delete the name of “an outsider”, apparently referring to Thaksin, from its motion, because the outsider cannot attend the House meeting to defend himself, citing House regulation 176.
Parit said in his Facebook post today that he disagrees with the Speaker’s request, noting that, from a legal perspective, there is no reason for the party to delete the name, because neither the Constitution nor the House regulation empowers the House Speaker to judge the content of a motion.
The People’s Party spokesman also claimed that the House Speaker did not notify the party within seven days of receiving the motion from the party, as required by House regulation 176.
He claims that, on numerous occasions, Thaksin has openly admitted to influencing the running of the government, as he explained that referring to Thaksin in its censure motion is part of the debate concerning the administration of the country and not an attack on an individual.
