Suspended prime minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s legal team may seek an extension of the defence filing deadline, set by the Constitutional Court, regarding an accusation that she had committed gross ethical misconduct in her conversation with Cambodia’s Hun Sen, according to Phumtham Wechayachai today.
When the court suspended Paetongtarn on July 1st, pending the outcome of its investigation into the accusation, it stated that she has 15 days to file her defence.
Phumtham said he is not sure of the reasons for or details of the requested delay.
When asked whether she would continue to use the same legal team, as Pheu Thai party has not had much success in previous legal battles, Phumtham said the question should be addressed to the prime minister.
Meanwhile, the ISRA News Agency reports that Wissanu Krea-ngam, a veteran legal expert and former deputy prime minister in Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha’s administration, will be responsible for reviewing the defence draft.
