The Constitutional Court has resolved unanimously to reject a petition challenging the legality of the memorandum of agreement signed between Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of the Bhumjaithai party, and Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut, leader of the People's party.
Under the agreement, the People's party agreed to support Anutin’s prime ministerial candidacy subject to four conditions, which are
• The prime minister must dissolve the House in four months of taking office.
• The prime minister must hold a referendum on the writing of a new constitution.
• The government must remain as a minority in the House.
• The People's party will remain on the Opposition benches.
The court said that it had not found any clear evidence to suggest that the two parties had exercised their rights or liberties in an attempt to overthrow constitutional democracy, as alleged by the petitioner, Niyom Nopparat.
Earlier, Niyom had submitted similar petition to the attorney-general, but it was rejected for the same reason.
