Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Parnpree Bahindra-Nukara is scheduled to meet the US State Secretary Antony Blinken in Washington DC on Monday to discuss bilateral issues with the Myanmar crisis on the top agenda, according to a highly informed source.

Parnpree will leave Bangkok on Saturday for a two-day official visit from Feb 10-12 to the US at Blinken’s invitation. It will first official visit to the US.

His trip has been in the planning for some time since they last met at the Asia Pacific Economic Leaders’ Meeting in San Franciso. His visit was confirmed during the recent meeting between Parnpress and the US National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivans in Bangkok.

During his visit, he will also meet with Gina M Raimondo, US Secretary of Commerce, and Amos Hochstein, Deputy Assistant to the President and Senior Advisor for Energy and Investment, as well as U.S. Senators with interests in foreign policy issues and the region.

Parnpree will also chair a meeting to give policy guidance and direction to Team Thailand in Washington, D.C.

Thailand has recently initiated a bilateral scheme with the State Administration Council in Naypyidaw to provide humanitarian assistance to the displaced persons inside Myanmar.

The plan was recently endorsed by the Asean foreign ministers during their retreat in Luang Prabang last month. A pilot area has been selected which is situated opposite Tak province. The aid operation will be overseen by the Asean Coordinating Center for Humanitarian and Disaster Management.
