The torch relay for the upcoming 33rd SEA Games and the 13th ASEAN Para Games is set to take place concurrently in four host cities; Bangkok, Chon Buri, Songkhla, and Nakhon Ratchasima, on November 16, with representatives from all 10 ASEAN member countries participating alongside more than 4,000 participants.
Thailand will host the 33rd edition of the region’s biennial multi-sport tournament from December 9–20 in Bangkok, Chon Buri, and Songkhla, while the 13th ASEAN Para Games will be held in Nakhon Ratchasima from January 20 to 26 next year.
Gongsak Yodmani, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), announced that the torch relays for both Games would be held simultaneously on the morning of November 16 across the four host provinces, with approximately 1,000 participants in each location.
“The SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games organising committees have already received the royally-bestowed flame from His Majesty the King for both events,” said Gongsak.
“There will be 276 torchbearers in total, representing athletes, sports associations, sponsors, and private-sector executives.
“After the run, the Royal Flame from Bangkok, Chon Buri, and Songkhla will be preserved at the SAT’s 7th Cycle Birthday Anniversary Chalermprakiat Building for the SEA Games opening ceremony. As for the ASEAN Para Games flame, it will be kept at the Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Hall.
“The routes and venues for the torch relay have already been designated in each province. In Songkhla, the relay will take place at Tinsulanonda Stadium; in Chon Buri, at Daikin Industrial (Thailand) in the Amata Industrial Estate; in Nakhon Ratchasima, at the activity lawn in front of the 80th Birthday Anniversary Stadium; and in Bangkok, on the lawn in front of Rajamangala National Stadium. We will also invite representatives from all 10 ASEAN member countries to take part in the event,” he added.
