Fares on the three BTS extensions will start at Bt17, instead of the Bt15 flat rate, and will vary in accordance with the distance travelled, but will not exceed Bt45, from November 1.
Bangkok Deputy Governor Wisanu Subsompon said today that the city’s administration, which is the concessionaire for the Green Line, has decided to adopt the distance fare system on the extensions to reflect the true operational costs and to ensure sustainable operation of the mass transit system.
He noted that the Bt15 flat fare rate is unrealistic, adding that the administration has had to spend about Bt6 billion each year to subsidise fares on the extensions.
Revenue is estimated at Bt2.4 billion annually, while operating costs are about Bt9 billion.
The three extensions are between Mo Chit and Khu Khot, Bang Chak and Samut Prakan, and between Po Nimit and Bang Wa. The total distance is 44km and covers 36 stations.
