The Palang Pracharath party has dismissed viral reports claiming that its leader, Gen Prawit Wongsuwan, was injured when he slipped on the stairs of a temple on May 19.
Party spokesman Piya Tavichai explained that Gen Prawit did not fall down the stairs, but merely tripped while walking down the steps at Phra Chetuphon Wimonmangkalaram Temple.
“Gen Prawit was not injured. He is physically and mentally healthy,” Piya claimed.
Following the incident, Gen Prawit was taken to a hospital for a check-up and was subsequently discharged.
A video clip released later shows Gen Prawit descending the stairs, assisted by an aide. As he was about to reach the ground, when he lost his balance and fell, landing on his left hip.
It is reported that, after the incident, former prime minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha and former interior minister Gen Anupong Paochinda called to check on Prawit’s wellbeing. He was a deputy prime minister in Prayut’s administration.
