Nearly 300 migratory birds have been recorded in Red River Delta in Northern Vietnam

Nearly 300 migratory birds have been recorded in the middle alluvium ground of the Red River, which flows through Hanoi. This is a particularly rare occurrence as many migratory species have not been seen here for many years.

Conservationists also recorded and added them to the list of new species, including globally endangered species here. The Red River is one of the most important watersheds for migratory birds in Northern Vietnam. As such, this place has become a unique home for birds in the heart of Hanoi.

Since 5 am, in the middle of the Red River, on Van Lang bank, which flows through Hanoi, thousands of birds are flying and feeding. There are nearly 192 wild and endangered species.

“The black crane is a very rare species in Vietnam and has not been recorded in the old areas for a long time. About 2-3 years ago, it could still be seen in this place,” said Nguyen Manh Ha, who works for The Center for Nature Conservation and Development.

There are a few banks in Hanoi that flow to Ba Lat Estuary, and all of them are eligible for bird conservation.

According to the results of the project on the “Conservation and development of wild animals and plants with rare genetic resources in Hanoi”, many bird species chose to live in this area a long time ago. All traces show that this is a critical bird station for migratory birds in the East Asia-Australia flight route.

After two years of implementation, the project has added the common starling and tadorna ferruginea to the list of bird species in Hanoi.

Head of the Forest Protection and Conservation Department Hanoi Forest Protection Division, Pham Van Mau, said that Some of the banks down there are heavily cultivated. In the middle banks, although there is cultivation, it remains unspoiled. That’s why they propose that Hanoi take Van Lang bank as a conservation site for migratory wild birds.

Among the nearly 300 species recorded here, up to 80% are migratory species. When migration season arrives, along the Red River route, the middle alluvium ground will become home to water and migratory birds in northern Vietnam. This place will soon become the most precious natural Wild Bird Park in the city.
