The injured adult gaur, which was suffering with an eye infection, has returned to the forest in Tap Lan National Park in Nakhon Ratchasima province after being treated by a vet yesterday,
Park officials and a vet, who went to the forest to rescue the animal, decided not to sedate and then treat it with medication, because this was considered as too risky.
Instead, they shot the animal with a dart containing an analgesic and anti-biotics. They then observed the effects of the medication from a safe distance. After a few hours, the gaur appeared to be doing well, started grazing and then headed deep into the jungle.
A park official said that the gaur had stopped walking circles, as it had been when it was first sighted.
He said that the wild beast might have been infected by buffalos, belonging to people in a community located on the edge of the national park.
