The state-owned Government Savings Bank (GSB) began wiring the initial 9,000 baht compensation today into the bank accounts of flood victims in Songkhla, Satun and Pattani whose houses were damaged during last week’s flooding.
About 239 million baht was distributed today to 4,563 households in Songkhla, 8,772 and 13,236 affected households in Satun and Pattani respectively.
The GSB has advised affected house owners, who have not yet downloaded the ‘Prompt Pay’ platform app onto their smart phones to connect with their bank accounts, to do so quickly to get paid.
Those eligible for the compensation must meet the following requirements:
• Their houses were submerged less than seven days and their property was damaged.
• Their houses were submerged more than seven days.
• Their houses were surrounded by flood water for seven days that they could not continue normal life.
• They live in high-rise buildings and their rooms were not inundated, but they could not continue their normal life for more than seven consecutive days.
Ratchada Dhnadirek, spokesman for the Flood Situation Command Centre, said that the government has ordered the distribution of compensation to be accelerated.
For those who died and were insured under Section 33 of the social security law, their families will each receive 50,000 baht to cover funeral expenses, while the families of people who were insured under Section 40 will receive 25,000 baht.
As for thousands of damaged cars, most of which are being moved to a stadium and a public park in Hat Yai, pending repairs or to be claimed by their owners, Ratchada said several private companies have offered to do repairs at bargain prices, adding that interested car owners can call the 1584 hotline of the Land Transport Department for more information.
