Thailand is set to leverage its role as host of the 2026 IMF–World Bank Group Annual Meetings to highlight its national economic strength and reinforce its commitment to economic diplomacy, according to Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow.
Speaking at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC), the venue for the high-profile international gathering, Sihasak stated that the event presents a prime opportunity to demonstrate Thailand's economic progress, rooted in the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy initiated by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great (King Rama IX), alongside the government’s short- and long-term economic strategies.
The global summit brings together international investors, fund managers, finance ministers, central bank governors, and representatives from government, the private sector, and civil society organisations worldwide.
Sihasak noted that hosting the meetings will deliver significant benefits beyond formal discussions, helping drive tourism and domestic spending as attendees explore the country.
Furthermore, sideline bilateral talks with key global financial leaders offer an invaluable platform for networking, investment expansion, and economic diplomacy.
Addressing the absence of US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent at the gathering, Sihasak explained that it was purely due to US domestic political obligations.
He assured that global interest in the summit remains exceptionally high, with strong, high-level delegation attendance from around the globe.
