DMCR invites Mariam fans to select ‘the best moment with Mariam’ in contest

Thailand’s Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) is celebrating upcoming Mother’s Day in Thailand by encouraging the fans of Mariam, the orphan baby dugong in Koh Libong, Trang province, to participate in a Facebook contest to select the best of four pictures of Mariam shown four different poses.

The first photo shows Mariam with an orange canoe, which she thought was her mother and still swims alongside it when she misses her.

The second photo shows Mariam in the embrace of her doctor, Dr. Patarapol “Lotter” Maneeorn.

The third photo shows Mariam gnawing on her flippers, which she does when she gets hungry at night.

The last photo shows how happy she is when she is with the orange canoe.

Those who wish to participate in the competition should:

  1. Share the DMCR’s post about the competition on their Facebook page
  2. Click ‘like’ on the DMCR’s page
  3. Enter a comment that contains the number of the selected picture with a caption and #DMCRTH #Mariam #Dugong in the post

The DMCR will pick the winner live on Facebook on August 11th at 5pm.

The prizes are 30 Mariam stuffed toys and postcards signed by DMCR director-general Mr. Jatuporn Buruspat.

The competition opened on August 2nd and entries must be received by August 7th.
