Five suspects and Dr. Anchulee, a doctor at the Police General Hospital, have been taken into police custody on charges of involvement in the illegal trading of psychotropic substances.
Pol Lt-Gen Santi Chainiramai, commissioner of the Narcotics Suppression Bureau, said the Thai Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) had sought help from the police after its officials found something suspicious in the way that Dr. Anchulee had personally ordered several deliveries of the psychotropic substances through a number of private clinics.
He said it took the police investigators several months to gather sufficient evidence against Dr. Anchulee.
The doctor was arrested at a condominium in the Rajadamri shopping district, while the five other suspects were apprehended later in Bangkok.
Pol Lt-Gen Santi said that Dr. Anchulee has been cooperative with the police enquiry officers, as he insisted that the Police General Hospital was not involved in the illegal trade.
