A 5-year-old schoolboy, who had been in ICU since being hit by a car on December 23rd, driven by a 75-year-old government retiree, was pronounced dead yesterday.
The boy, ‘Asadawut’, sustained a fractured skull and developed a cerebral thrombosis when he and about ten other students and parents were struck while they were crossing the road in front of the Don Khwang School in Hua Thalay sub-district of Mueang district in Nakhon Ratchasima.
A traffic police officer, Pol Lt Wimut Taensupho, and a 4-year-old kindergarten student were killed and ten other people were injured, including Asadawut. He underwent surgery and was kept in the ICU until he passed.
Asadawut’s body is scheduled to be taken home by his parents for a funeral at Ban Phra Temple in Maroeng sub-district today.
Another patient, a 10-year-old schoolgirl, is still in hospital, but she is out of danger, according to her doctors.
The driver, only identified as ‘Somsak’, was granted bail by the provincial court after being charged by the police with drunk driving causing death and injury to others.
Police allege that Somsak’s blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was measured at 197 mg%.
