In coordinated raids on nine locations in Bangkok and elsewhere today, Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) officers arrested about 30 people, including a woman identified as Thanyanan, formerly Suchanun Sucharitchinsri, for allegedly running online gambling operations.
Thanyanan (or Suchanun) came to public attention about two years ago, when a major online gambling network, linked to a high-ranking police officer, was thought to have been dismantled. The senior officer has since been dismissed from police service for allegedly accepting kickbacks from the network.
The CCIB say that, after that crackdown, the online gambling operations continued, but have become more cautious.
Thanyanan is currently free on bail, as an indictment by public prosecutors is still pending.
The CCIB is yet to officially announce the arrests of the latest mob of suspects, including Thanyanan, or the charges against them.
