Santhana Prayoonrat, a controversial former police officer, was arrested at a condominium in Bangkok’s Ploenchit area by the metropolitan police today, for alleged involvement in the kidnapping of a Taiwanese businessman four years ago.
He was escorted to Thonglor police station to face charges related to the abduction and extortion.
After his arrest, Santhana told the media that he had been double-crossed by some senior police officers and politicians, after he exposed their alleged connections with online gambling operations.
He also said that he does not understand why so many officers were sent to arrest him, saying that he has never attempted to flee.
The former police officer said that the abduction case is still pending with public prosecutors and he has appealed for justice from them adding, however, that the police recently sought a warrant for his arrest.
Santhana is reported to have had a business conflict with the Taiwanese businessman and allegedly ordered his abduction, followed by a 93 million baht ransom demand, in exchange for his safe release. He has denied the accusation.
The case is still pending with prosecutors.
