The body of a 32-year-old Thai woman, who is thought to have been pushed from a room in a condominium in Malaysia, arrived in Bangkok yesterday.

The woman, identified only as “Mewika”, died when she fell from the 23rd to the 7th floor of the building in Kuala Lumpur on the evening of February 28.

Police in Kuala Lumpur took a 37-year-old man into custody at the scene.

The suspect, who works as a lorry driver, has a criminal record with seven prior offenses. He also tested positive for cannabis, according to police.

An incident, prior to woman’s fall, was caught on videos recorded by those living in nearby condos. The clips, which went viral on many social media platforms, had captured the sounds of a man and a woman quarrelling loudly, before she was seen falling from the condo.

As she collected the body yesterday, an elder sister of the victim told reporters that Mewika went to work at a restaurant in Yala’s Betong district two months ago.

She met a Malaysian man there and they became a couple, according to the sister, who added that they then travelled back and forth between Thailand and Malaysia a couple of times.

They had gone back to Kuala Lumpur two days before the tragedy, she said. She learned of the death from one of her sister’s friends, who telephoned her with the news.

She called for Malaysian police to take legal action against the suspect, so that he would not be able to harm other people.

The Bangkok-based Paveena Foundation for Children and Women has stepped in to help with the return of the body and has donated Bt10,000 to the victim’s family.

Thais in Malaysia also launched a campaign to help fund the return, soliciting about Bt60,000. The cremation will be held at a temple on March 14 in Pathum Thani province.
